DO I HAVE FACIAL SAGGING/ JOWLS?

Facial sagging / jowls can cause a degree of aesthetic concern. A consultation with one of Gallery Aesthetics’ experienced practitioners can explain the reasons behind this common, age-related condition.

At some point during adulthood, the lower face will start to appear saggy. This can happen to both men and women who often experience facial sagging from the age of 40 / 50+. The skin around the jawline is most frequently affected, and may be the area where facial sagging first starts to develop. This is specifically referred to as jowls which usually affect both sides of the face. Facial sagging / jowls can progress over time, which may also be accompanied by loose skin on the cheeks, around the neck and / or beneath the chin.

Many ageing related concerns are the result of lost collagen and elastin, and facial sagging / jowls are no exception. Collagen and elastin are proteins that are produced regularly when we’re in our youth, but this slows down when we reach our 20’s. This leads to a decline in their levels as we get older, reducing by around 1-1.5% each year. As collagen and elastin are the elements within our skin’s structure that ensure the complexion is firm and full, their decline means a reduction in both volume and bounce. Weak skin that is less taut and less dense can then start to hang and give the face an overall droopy appearance.

The breakdown of collagen and elastin can be accelerated by certain lifestyle choices, such as: prolonged sun exposure, smoking, lack of hydration, alcohol consumption and a poor diet.

TREATMENT FOR FACIALS SAGGING /JOWLS MILTON KEYNES

TREATMENT OPTIONS:

At Gallery Aesthetics we approach facial sagging / jowls with a view to lifting and tightening the skin and then increasing volume within the skin.

There are a number of treatments available at our clinic that can enhance the quality of the complexion, and work to increase tissue mass or trigger the production of new collagen, including:

SylfimX, Profhilo, Skin Boosters  and microneedling. Dissolvable dermal fillers that contain high concentrations of hyaluronic acid can be used around the mid-lower face; recontouring the jawline as well as supporting the overall facial structure. However, it’s an overall lifted effect that’s desired, PDO / COG threads (which work well around the lower face) can produce similar results to a surgical face lift.
