Whilst there are some incredible treatments that will give beautiful and long lasting results to the skin, there are some popular treatments that we, as a results driven clinic, that care about the integrity of peoples skin do not do (...and never will!)
Dermaplaning Dermaplaning is a treatment that involves using a small scalpel to take off dead skin cells and vellus hair (the soft peach fuzz that appears on the surface of the skin) Some people like it because they feel their make up may sit better and their skin feels smooth for a couple of days. However that’s where the ‘benefits’ end. By taking off the top layer of the skin, the skins barrier is being purposely impaired and effectively 'stripped away’. As a clinic that specialises in skin our whole purpose is to repair skin barriers so that the skin can function optimally and glow long term - not just a few days. More often than not clients that have had dermaplaining will experience breakouts after their treatments. Because the skins barrier has been removed bacteria has a direct channel to get in the skin easily creating spots and blocked pores. So this is why you will not find dermaplaning on our treatment menu.
Dermarolling Dermarolling can sometimes be mistaken as ‘microneedling’. Derma rolling can be done in salons or at home and involves a small roller with needles on that is run over the skin often repeatedly. It is it often followed by a serum/cream. The reason for this treatment is that it is wrongly believed that by running the needles across the skin then putting on product - the product is penetrating deeper. However in reality the derma roller is creating small tears in the epidermis of the skin. With time this creates scar tissue and will leave skin not looking its best. When used at home the roller isn’t always sterilised effectively either, which allows bacteria to get into the skin which can cause breakouts and infections. To get products to penetrate beneath the epidermis then the simple way to do this is to use cosmeceutical grade skin like DIBI Milano that has a low molecular weight, which absorbs into the skin into the dermis creating visible change within the skin - and no derma roller in sight.
