WHAT ARE SKIN LESIONS?
Small skin lesions such as a moles, skin tags, milia, cherry angioma and warts are common and generally harmless, however for cosmetic reasons you may want them removed. At Gallery Aesthetics we are able to remove all of these type of lesions on the face or on the body.
Moles are a type of common skin growth. They are frequently small, dark-brown spots and are caused by pigmented cell clusters. Generally, they appear during childhood and adolescence. Most people have between 10 and 40 moles, some of which may change over time or disappear. The majority of moles are harmless and only very rarely becoming cancerous. Monitoring moles and other pigmented patches, particularly malignant melanoma, is an important proactive step in detecting skin cancer. A mole develops when cells within the skin (melanocytes) grow together in clusters or clumps. Melanocytes are present throughout the skin - they produce the natural pigment melanin that colours the skin.
Skin tags are painless, non-cancerous growths on the skin’s surface. A tiny, thin stem called a peduncle connects the tag to the skin. Skin tags are made up of blood vessels and collagen surrounded by an outside layer of skin. It is unclear what causes skin tags exactly. Since they usually appear in the folds of the skin, friction can play a part. Skin tags are common in both men and women, particularly over 50 years of age. They can appear anywhere in your body, although they are usually found where the skin folds, for example armpits, groin, neck, under the breasts.
Age/liver spots, freckles and sun damaged, hyper pigmented lesions are caused by an excess production of melanin due to skin aging and sun exposure or other forms of ultraviolet light exposure, such as tanning beds. They are most likely to develop on the areas of your skin that receive the most sun exposure, including the face, back of hands, chest, shoulders and forearms.
For the removal of any pigmented areas, only one treatment is typically required using the CryoPen™.
